COAS Charges Newly Commissioned Officers on Professionalism, Loyalty and Discipline

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly commissioned officers of the Nigerian Army to uphold unwavering loyalty to the Constitution and place national interest above every other consideration as the country intensifies efforts to tackle worsening security challenges.

The COAS gave the directive on Saturday, 6 December 2025, at the Passing Out Parade of Executive Commission Course 2/2025, held at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), Jaji. The event forms part of ongoing measures to reinforce Nigeria’s security architecture following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency on Security.

General Shaibu said the commissioning of the new officers aligns with the President’s mandate to boost manpower, improve frontline deployment, and accelerate stabilisation efforts across all operational theatres. He expressed confidence in the quality of training received by the officers, noting that their impressive parade skills and weapon-handling proficiency reflect the rising standards of the Nigerian Army.

He reminded the officers of their duty to remain disciplined, apolitical and fully subordinate to civil authority, emphasising that professionalism and constitutional loyalty remain the foundation of military service. According to him, their commissioning comes at a defining moment in Nigeria’s security evolution, marked by terrorism, banditry and evolving threats that require courageous and ethically grounded leaders.

Earlier, the Commandant of NASI, Major General Frank Etim, disclosed that the curriculum for the course was deliberately overhauled to address emerging security dynamics. He said the 250 officers, including 14 females, underwent rigorous training in Counterterrorism, Counterinsurgency, Leadership, Physical Conditioning and Tactical Command to ensure they are fully prepared for current and future operations nationwide.

General Etim added that the intensive programme was designed to instill core military values of loyalty, discipline, courage and integrity, which are essential for officers expected to lead in increasingly complex operational environments.

Awards were presented to officers who excelled in academics, field exercises and leadership during the course.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s security emergency action plan through sustained recruitment, enhanced readiness, rigorous training and strategic deployments across the country.
