CAS Meets Alpha Jet Pilots After Emergency Ejection
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has visited the two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet pilots who survived an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection test flight at the NAF Base, Kainji, on 6 December 2025.
The visit comes after the pilots safely ejected from the aircraft when it developed a critical fault shortly after take-off. The incident occurred during a routine functional check flight, prompting the aircrew to take swift action to avert civilian casualties.
According to the Nigerian Air Force, the pilots demonstrated exceptional discipline and professionalism by steering the aircraft away from populated areas before ejecting. The aircrew, who landed safely, are currently undergoing standard medical evaluations.
During the visit, Air Marshal Aneke praised the pilots for their courage, sound judgement, and strict adherence to safety procedures under extreme pressure. He noted that their actions prevented loss of life and property, describing the outcome as a testament to the quality of NAF training and safety culture.

The CAS also commended the coordinated response of NAF personnel, including Search and Rescue teams, Fire and Crash Response units, and medical professionals who immediately secured the crash site and ensured the safety of the aircrew.
Aneke announced the constitution of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the incident and determine the cause of the aircraft failure. He stressed that the inquiry is standard practice aimed at strengthening operational safety.
He added that the incident highlights the inherent risks involved in aviation operations, especially military flying where personnel operate in high-risk environments to support national security.
“The bravery, sacrifice and professionalism of our men and women in uniform must never be taken for granted,” the CAS said, assuring that NAF remains committed to maintaining strict safety standards and improving operational readiness.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to protecting its personnel and safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians in line with its constitutional mandate.
