Troops Foil Robbery, Rescue Hostages, Recover Weapons in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have recorded major breakthroughs in the ongoing Operations Peace Shield and Zafin Wuta, following a series of coordinated missions that disrupted criminal activities across Taraba State.
In one of the operations, conducted on December 6, 2025, soldiers deployed at Manya responded to a distress call alerting them to an armed robbery incident along the Manya–Takum Road. Armed robbers had reportedly blocked the busy route and were dispossessing travellers of their belongings. The troops swiftly launched a clearance operation, forcing the criminals to flee. A search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The army said the prompt response of its personnel restored normal movement along the highway and prevented possible casualties.

In a separate incident on December 7, troops stationed at Kufai Amadu rescued two kidnapped travellers during a coordinated search-and-rescue mission. Four men from Bauchi State, travelling on two motorcycles, had been abducted in Amadu Town while heading to Baissa in Kurmi Local Government Area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims, who were unfamiliar with the area, were seized after stopping to ask for directions. Troops intensified operations after receiving credible intelligence, leading to the rescue of two victims — Mr Yusuf Musa and Mr Muhammed Umar — who managed to escape from their captors. Search efforts are ongoing to find the remaining victims, identified as Mr Musa Danji and Mr Yusuf, as soldiers continue to comb the surrounding bushes and track the abductors.
Similarly, troops deployed at Iware, acting on intelligence, conducted a search operation at Garin Sambo, Tau Village, in Ardo Kola LGA, also on December 6. During the operation, soldiers recovered two pump-action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles, and four mobile phones. Two suspects — Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda — were arrested over their alleged involvement in illegal arms possession. They are currently in military custody alongside the recovered items.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, describing the successes as a testament to the sustained pressure on criminal elements under Operations Peace Shield and Zafin Wuta. He assured residents of Taraba State, especially travellers during the Yuletide season, that the Brigade remains committed to securing highways and communities to ensure safe movement throughout the festivities.
General Uwa further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with reliable information to enhance ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the state.
