
COAS Decorates Army Spokesperson with Colonel Rank

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has decorated Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, with the rank of Colonel in recognition of her outstanding dedication and exemplary service to the Nigerian Army.
The ceremony, held at Army Headquarters, Abuja, saw the COAS, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, commend Colonel Anele’s professionalism and unwavering commitment to military service.
He charged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to continue projecting the Nigerian Army’s image responsibly and credibly.

General Shaibu emphasized that effective communication is vital for the success of military operations and national confidence in the Armed Forces. He urged the Directorate to maintain transparent, accountable, and timely communication on the activities of the Nigerian Army.
Colonel Anele was further tasked with upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and loyalty, while mentoring her subordinates to strengthen the Directorate’s effectiveness and capacity.
In her vote of thanks, Colonel Anele expressed deep gratitude to Almighty God, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the COAS for their guidance, visionary leadership, and mentorship, which she described as pivotal to her career progression.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including former Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd), senior serving and retired officers, as well as family members, friends, and well-wishers.
