GGT Nigeria Commemorates Anti-Corruption Day, Urges “Whole-of-Society” Approach Focused on Youth
The Good Governance Team (GGT) Nigeria
has called for a “whole-of-society approach” to combat corruption, emphasizing the crucial role of youth, as the organization joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day.
December 9 is recognized annually by the United Nations as International Anti-Corruption Day, serving as a reminder of the serious harm caused by corruption and the need for stronger collective action.
This year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” highlights the important role young people must play in the global fight against corruption.
Corruption’s Damaging Impact on Development
GGT Nigeria noted that corruption remains one of the most damaging challenges facing many nations, stressing that it arrests development, weakens institutions, fuels inequality, and discourages investment.

The organization added that corruption also contributes to voter apathy, as citizens lose confidence in processes that should protect their rights, with young people experiencing these consequences directly.
GGT Nigeria’s Call to Action
As GGT Nigeria marked the day, the organization issued a multi-sectoral call to action:
* Government Institutions were urged to strengthen anti-corruption mechanisms, enforce laws without bias, and ensure openness in public service.
* Civil Society and the Media were tasked with raising awareness, encouraging public dialogue, monitoring government actions, and promoting a culture of accountability.
* Communities, Schools, and Families were encouraged to teach values of honesty, responsibility, and ethical behaviour, noting that building integrity starts at home.
* Youth were called upon to speak out, demand fairness, embrace integrity, and use their voices and skills to discourage corrupt practices.
The private sector was also encouraged to uphold ethical standards, strengthen compliance systems, and create opportunities for youth engagement.
Tunde Salman, Convener of GGTNigeria, affirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting transparency and empowering young people with the tools they need to act with integrity through civic education.
