Troops Eliminate Notorious Bandit Commander Kachalla Kallamu in Sokoto Operation
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto have neutralised a notorious bandit kingpin, Kachalla Kallamu, during a coordinated operation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
A reliable military source, who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development, describing it as a major operational breakthrough in the ongoing fight against banditry in the North-West.

According to the source, Kallamu—one of the closest associates and a senior lieutenant of the infamous bandit leader, Bello Turji—was killed alongside a major logistics supplier to the Turji faction. The duo were eliminated in the early hours of Monday during a targeted offensive around Kurawa village, executed jointly by troops and local vigilante groups.
The source further disclosed that Kallamu, who hailed from Garin-Idi in Sabon Birni LGA, had long terrorised communities within the area. He reportedly resurfaced in the region after fleeing a previous military onslaught in June 2025, during which he was believed to have taken refuge in Kogi State.
The military source commended residents for their continuous intelligence support, which he said has been instrumental to recent operational successes. The development has been widely celebrated by locals, including the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman.
Security operations have intensified across Sokoto State in recent weeks as troops continue to pursue remnants of terror gangs destabilising rural communities.
