No Raid on Amnesty International Office, ICPC Clarifies Misleading Report
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed media reports alleging that its operatives attacked or invaded the Abuja office of Amnesty International, describing the claims as false, misleading and capable of inciting tension.
In a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, 2025, ICPC spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, said no operatives of the Commission visited or entered Amnesty International’s premises at any time.
According to the Commission, its officials were at the IHS Regional Office located at No. 6, Dar es Salaam Street, Wuse II, Abuja, on a lawful assignment when the purported “face-off” occurred. The agency explained that its officers had earlier visited the facility to deliver an official correspondence but were obstructed and prevented from carrying out their duties by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and other security personnel of IHS.

The statement said the ICPC operatives were forcefully escorted out of the building during the initial visit, an action that compelled the Commission to obtain a search warrant in line with legal provisions.
Describing itself as a responsible and law-abiding agency, ICPC emphasised that it expects full cooperation from individuals and corporate organisations while carrying out its statutory mandate and would not tolerate any obstruction of its officers in the course of duty.
The Commission also disclosed that the Director of Regulatory Affairs of IHS Regional Office, Mr. Saidu Abdullahi, has since issued a written apology to the ICPC on behalf of IHS Towers and its management. He reportedly described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable, assuring that lapses on the part of the CSO and personnel on duty would be addressed to avert future occurrences.
ICPC urged the public to disregard the “misleading publication” circulating in a section of the media, insisting that it does not reflect the true account of events. The anti-corruption agency reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, integrity and adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of its responsibilities.
