In Lagos, Army Chief Solicits Royal Support for Military Operations

In Lagos, Army Chief Solicits Royal Support for Military Operations

 

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu I, seeking strengthened traditional support for ongoing military operations across the country.

The visit, held at the Oba’s palace in Lagos, underscored the Army’s continued engagement with traditional institutions as key partners in Nigeria’s security architecture.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Spokesperson said in a statement released on Thursday that General Shaibu expressed deep appreciation to the monarch and the council of Obas for their longstanding cooperation with the Nigerian Army, noting that their guidance and influence play a crucial role in fostering peace and stability within communities.

He explained that his visit was not only to convey gratitude but also to seek the royal blessings of the Oba, emphasising that Nigeria’s cultural heritage and traditional structures remain vital to nation-building.

The COAS praised Oba Akiolu for his unwavering support to Army formations and institutions within Lagos State.

According to him, the monarch’s fatherly counsel, goodwill and moral support have continued to enhance civil–military relations and boost the morale of troops deployed across various assignments.

He assured the monarch that the Nigerian Army remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline and service to the nation.

Responding, Oba Akiolu commended the Nigerian Army for its steadfastness in safeguarding lives and defending the territorial integrity of the country.

He described the Army as a critical pillar of national unity and stability, stressing that its sacrifices and operational achievements have been essential to the continued peace enjoyed across the country.

The monarch lauded Lieutenant General Shaibu for his leadership, noting that his commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure Nigeria is evident in the Army’s ongoing operations and engagements.

He thereafter offered special prayers for the peace and progress of the nation, as well as for the success of the COAS in his tenure as the 25th Chief of Army Staff.

The visit, witnessed by senior officers and palace chiefs, highlights the Nigerian Army’s resolve to deepen collaboration with traditional authorities, who remain indispensable stakeholders in conflict resolution, community engagement and national cohesion.
