Defence Minister Tasks Army Commanders on Results as COAS Unveils Force Transformation Agenda
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has charged senior commanders of the Nigerian Army to ensure that decisions taken at the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2025 translate into measurable results on the battlefield.
This as the Army intensifies efforts to transform into a modern, professional and technology-driven force.
Musa gave the charge at the opening of the COAS Annual Conference holding in Lagos, describing the gathering as a strategic platform for reviewing the Army’s operational posture, assessing readiness and aligning military actions with Nigeria’s evolving national security priorities.
He stressed that the complexity of Nigeria’s security environment requires stronger joint operations, deeper inter-agency collaboration and a whole-of-society approach, urging commanders to move beyond deliberations and ensure concrete outcomes that enhance operational effectiveness.
“The outcomes of this conference must reflect in decisive actions and measurable results in ongoing operations across the country,” the Defence Minister said, while commending the resilience, professionalism and sacrifices of Nigerian Army personnel.

According to him, the Army is evolving into a more adaptive, professional and technology-driven force capable of confronting both conventional and asymmetric warfare.
He attributed ongoing reforms in training, equipment modernisation and institutional development to sustained political support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and legislative backing from the National Assembly.
The COAS reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army remains at the forefront of national efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that professionalism, discipline and patriotism must continue to guide military operations.
He urged participants at the conference to engage constructively and ensure that resolutions reached strengthen the Army’s operational readiness and ability to maintain peace and stability nationwide.
