Tinubu Restates Government’s Focus on Army Welfare, Modernisation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare, professionalism and modernisation of the Nigerian Army.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2025 in Lagos, the said sustained investment in personnel welfare, equipment modernisation and institutional reforms remains central to strengthening the Armed Forces’ operational effectiveness.
Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s evolving security environment demands a professional and combat-ready Army capable of addressing both conventional and asymmetric threats. He described the annual conference as a critical forum for strategic reflection, training improvement and operational recalibration.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, thanked the President for consistent political will and strategic backing, particularly in areas of welfare, modernisation and training, saying the support has enhanced operational readiness across all theatres.
On his part, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended the Nigerian Army for its pivotal role in maintaining peace, security and democratic stability in Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu described security as a fundamental prerequisite for development, praising the Army’s professionalism and commitment to national unity.
He specifically lauded Headquarters 81 Division, Nigerian Army, for its contributions to internal security and civil-military cooperation within the state.
The governor assured the Nigerian Army of the continued support of the Lagos State Government, stressing the importance of sustained collaboration between civil authorities and security agencies.
