Plateau Insecurity: Governor Urges NAF to Deepen Air Support, Intelligence Operations
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has called on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to scale up air support and intelligence-driven operations to confront worsening security threats in Plateau State and the wider North Central region.
Mutfwang made the call on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the service Headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
Describing Plateau’s security situation as complex and increasingly asymmetric, the governor said sustained federal–state collaboration remains critical to restoring peace. He praised the Air Force for its role in stabilising parts of the state but stressed that more coordinated air surveillance and intelligence support are needed, especially during festive and farming seasons when attacks often spike.
“We are dealing with asymmetric warfare, and it is challenging,” Mutfwang said, urging the Air Force to maintain pressure on criminal elements threatening lives and livelihoods.

He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to support NAF operations, noting that security is central to economic stability and social cohesion in the state. According to him, protecting farming communities and securing trade routes must remain a priority.
The governor also congratulated Air Marshal Aneke on his appointment as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff and commended NAF personnel for their professionalism in ongoing operations across the North Central zone.
In response, the Air Chief assured the governor of the Air Force’s continued commitment to intelligence-led and mission-focused operations in Plateau State. Aneke said the NAF would sustain its support through targeted surveillance, air mobility and close coordination with other security agencies.
“Our focus remains delivering decisive airpower effects in support of joint operations,” he said, stressing that intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance remain key to defeating emerging threats.
Aneke thanked the Plateau State Government for providing a supportive environment for NAF personnel, noting that cooperation from state authorities and host communities is essential for operational success.
Both leaders agreed to deepen cooperation through improved training, capability development and a whole-of-government approach to security, pledging closer coordination to enhance safety, rebuild public confidence and secure lasting peace in Plateau State.
