Troops Kill One Kidnapper, Arrest 3 Informants in Plateau

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and arrested three alleged informants during a counter-kidnapping operation in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, conducted under Operation PEACE SHIELD, followed credible intelligence on a reported kidnapping attempt in Dong community on December 15, 2025.

According to the Joint Task Force, troops swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving the intelligence and engaged the kidnappers on arrival, forcing them to abandon their initial mission and flee.

However, while retreating, the criminals reportedly diverted to a neighbouring community where they abducted four persons. Troops immediately pursued the suspects and engaged them in a firefight, during which one of the kidnappers was neutralised.

Military sources disclosed that an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered from the neutralised suspect. In addition, three suspected informants, believed to have been providing intelligence and logistical support to the kidnappers, were arrested during follow-up operations.

Efforts are currently ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and to track down other members of the criminal network involved in the incident.

Confirming the development, the Media Information Officer of JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, said the force remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property across Plateau State and the entire Joint Operations Area.

He assured residents that troops are “highly motivated, vigilant and operationally effective,” adding that the task force would continue to take decisive action against all forms of criminality to ensure lasting peace and security in the area.

The military has urged members of the public to continue to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
