NAF’s Operational Success Depends on Training, Welfare — Air Marshal Aneke
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to counter-insurgency operations, internal security, and the protection of lives and property, pledging sustained operational readiness and improved personnel welfare.
Air Marshal Aneke gave the assurance on Wednesday during his maiden operational visit to the Air Training Command (ATC) and co-located units in Kaduna, a location he described as a strategic hub in the history and future of the Service.
Addressing officers, airmen and airwomen at a durbar, the CAS said Kaduna holds a special place in the evolution of the NAF and in his personal career journey, noting that the visit was designed to strengthen professional engagement and reinforce shared responsibility to the Service’s mission and core values.
According to him, the interaction provided an avenue for direct engagement, honest dialogue and a renewed commitment to sustaining a mission-ready force capable of responding effectively to contemporary security challenges.

Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Yusuf Dari, presented a detailed briefing on the Command’s mandate, training activities, achievements and operational challenges. He underscored the pivotal role of the ATC in sustaining air power, stressing that the effectiveness of NAF operations is directly linked to the quality of training, maintenance and support provided by the Command.
AVM Dari also outlined ongoing efforts to strengthen capacity and align training outputs with evolving operational demands across the country.
As part of the visit, Air Marshal Aneke inspected key units and facilities to assess operational requirements firsthand and commissioned selected building projects aimed at enhancing training infrastructure and improving personnel welfare.
Reiterating his Command Philosophy, the CAS noted that it is a practical framework meant to guide decision-making, planning, training and conduct at all levels of command, rather than a mere slogan. He emphasised that the quality of air operations depends largely on robust training and sustainment systems.
Air Marshal Aneke further stated that prevailing security threats must be addressed through sustained pressure, smart operations and effective leadership at every level of command.
He concluded the visit by restating his policy thrust of “Welfare for Enhanced Warfare,” explaining that motivated and well-cared-for personnel are more disciplined, alert and effective in the discharge of their duties. The CAS assured Nigerians of the Air Force’s continued resolve to safeguard lives, property and the nation’s security interests.
