Troops Neutralise Terrorists, Recover Arms in Zamfara, Borno Operations

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded fresh successes against terrorist elements in coordinated operations across Zamfara and Borno states, neutralising several fighters and recovering a cache of arms and logistics.

In Zamfara State, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, operating under Operation Forest Sanity IV, sustained clearance operations on December 17, neutralising three terrorists during offensives in parts of Isa and Shinkafi Local Government Areas.

The operation, executed by troops of 8 Division, covered Gangara, Makawana, Satiru, Baici and Kurkusu villages in Isa LGA before extending to Batamna village in Shinkafi LGA, where contact was made with the terrorists.

During the encounter, three terrorists were killed, while three AK-47 rifles and a Baofeng communication radio were recovered. Sources disclosed that troops have since maintained dominance in the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action and prevent regrouping.

Meanwhile, in Borno State, troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled an early-morning infiltration attempt by terrorists from the Mandara Mountains near Bitta community. The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday when troops, leveraging surveillance systems, detected suspicious movement toward the area.

The troops tactically allowed the insurgents to advance into a designated killing zone before engaging them with coordinated defensive fire, neutralising several terrorists, including a key fighter and his cameraman. Follow-on precision strikes were subsequently carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, further decimating the fleeing insurgents.

Items recovered from the scene included AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, bandoliers, hand-held radios, a camcorder, several belts of PKT and GPMG-linked ammunition, as well as motorcycles and bicycles. Troops also traced blood trails and discovered shallow graves during exploitation of the area, suggesting additional casualties inflicted on the terrorists.

Military authorities reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YANMA and Operation Hadin Kai to sustain aggressive offensive and defensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting their logistics and restoring lasting peace across affected regions.
