Troops Foil ISWAP Drone, Mortar Attack on Military Base in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated drone and mortar attack launched by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 7:57 p.m. on Thursday, when three hostile drones were detected hovering around Battalion Headquarters “Alfa,” in what was believed to be a surveillance mission by the terrorists.
According to the sources, as troops mobilised to neutralise the drones, the insurgents escalated the attack by firing two mortar bombs into the base, followed by intense small-arms fire.

“The troops responded swiftly with superior firepower, effectively suppressing the terrorists and forcing them to retreat in disarray towards the Mangari axis,” one of the sources said.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) promptly provided air support during the engagement, further reinforcing ground troops and contributing significantly to the successful repulsion of the attack.
No casualties were recorded among the troops, and no military equipment was damaged during the encounter.
In the aftermath of the failed assault, troops carried out an exploitation of the surrounding area, recovering several items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. These included six rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs and charges, 366 rounds of 7.62mm x 51 ammunition, and a large quantity of expended PKT rounds.
Operation Hadin Kai has continued to sustain offensive operations across the North East, aimed at denying terrorist groups freedom of action and degrading their operational capabilities.
