DHQ Deploys Special Forces, Air Assets to Enhance Security During Christmas Festivities
The Defence Headquarters has announced the deployment of special forces, additional troops, and air support across the country to prevent attacks during the Christmas festivities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, said the Armed Forces of Nigeria, working in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified operations in identified vulnerable areas.
He disclosed that extra troops have been stationed at strategic locations and along key routes, while special forces units and air assets have been placed on high alert to ensure rapid response to any security threat.
“The Defence Headquarters wishes to inform the public that robust and proactive measures have been put in place to prevent any attacks during the Christmas celebrations,” Onoja said.
According to him, surveillance operations, including aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering, have also been stepped up to track the movements and communication patterns of suspected criminal elements.

Onoja added that unit commanders nationwide have been directed to strengthen patrols, establish fortified checkpoints, and sustain close collaboration with community leaders, local vigilante groups, and state security outfits.
He stressed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to the protection of lives and property, noting that national security and stability remain a top priority as citizens prepare to celebrate Christmas.
The defence spokesman also called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by remaining calm but vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest security formations.
“Citizens’ cooperation remains a critical component of national security. All reports will be treated with urgency and confidentiality,” he assured.
Onoja further conveyed the goodwill message of the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, who wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, while urging the public to support ongoing security operations.
The heightened security measures come amid recent concerns raised by a humanitarian organisation over alleged plots to attack some northern communities during the Christmas period.
