Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI have ambushed and disrupted a major logistics movement of Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, killing at least 21 fighters during an operation in Sojiri and Kayamla communities of Borno State.

The operation, which followed credible intelligence, targeted more than 100 terrorists reportedly converging in the area to launch coordinated attacks on nearby communities and transport supplies to their enclaves.

Acting on the intelligence, troops working in close collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilante groups swiftly mobilised to intercept the insurgents. Contact was made at about 12 noon as the terrorists advanced through the communities.

According to military sources, the troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce and sustained firefight, effectively repelling an attempted rear-flanking manoeuvre by the terrorists. The soldiers reportedly dominated the encounter with superior firepower, forcing the attackers into disarray.

Following the initial engagement, troops carried out aggressive exploitation operations deep into the surrounding forest. This confirmed the neutralisation of 21 terrorists, while several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. Follow-on operations are ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more weapons and logistics.

Items recovered from the scene included several bicycles, assorted food items, drugs and medical supplies, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, and other logistics items, as well as assorted weapons of different calibres and ammunition.

The Army said the troops remain in high morale, with fighting efficiency described as strong and unwavering. The successful operation, it added, underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and joint security collaboration in degrading terrorist networks and disrupting their supply chains in the North-East.

Operation HADIN KAI continues to sustain pressure on insurgent groups across the theatre, with security forces reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace and stability in affected communities.
