Yuletide: DHQ Deploys Troops, Special Forces, Air Assets Nationwide

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the deployment of additional troops, special forces units and air assets across the country as part of robust security measures to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration nationwide.

In a statement on Sunday, the DHQ said the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), working in close coordination with other security agencies, have intensified operations in identified vulnerable areas to prevent attacks and criminal activities during the festive period.

According to the military high command, troops have been deployed to strategic locations, major routes and flashpoints, while special forces units and air support elements have been placed on high alert to guarantee rapid response to any emerging threat.

The DHQ added that surveillance operations have been significantly heightened, with increased aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering to track the movement and communication patterns of suspected criminal groups.

“Unit Commanders in all areas have been directed to strengthen patrols, establish fortified checkpoints, and maintain close collaboration with community leaders, local vigilante groups and state security formations,” the statement said.

The Armed Forces assured Nigerians that every necessary measure has been put in place to protect lives and property throughout the Christmas festivities.

“The security and stability of our nation remain our top priority, and all efforts are being made to ensure that citizens celebrate Christmas in peace, unity and joy,” the DHQ stated.

The military also emphasised the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to remain calm but vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security formation. It assured that all security reports would be treated with urgency and confidentiality.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, through the statement, extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Nigerians, wishing them a peaceful and joyful festive season.

The statement was signed by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Mike Onoja, on behalf of the Defence Headquarters.
