Mohammed Tako Takes Over as Customs Controller in Adamawa/Taraba, Pledges Transparent Leadership

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has witnessed a smooth change of leadership with the assumption of duty by Comptroller Mohammed Tako as the new Customs Area Controller.

The formal handing over and taking over ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Customs House in Yola, following the redeployment of senior officers within the Service. The outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Garba Bashir, officially handed over to Comptroller Tako in the presence of senior officers and heads of units.

A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Naomi Titus, said the transition was carried out in line with established administrative procedures, underscoring the Service’s commitment to continuity, efficiency, and effective service delivery across Adamawa and Taraba States.

In his farewell remarks, Comptroller Bashir expressed gratitude to God Almighty and the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for the opportunity to serve. He described his tenure as rewarding, attributing the successes recorded to teamwork, professionalism, and the support of officers and stakeholders.

“I appreciate the dedication and cooperation of officers and men of this Command, and I urge you to extend the same support to my successor to enable him succeed,” Bashir said. He also appealed for forgiveness from anyone he may have offended in the course of carrying out his official duties.

In his acceptance speech, Comptroller Tako thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs for the confidence reposed in him and commended his predecessor for laying what he described as a solid foundation for the Command.

“It is an honour to build on the achievements recorded here. I assure you of an open-door policy and a collective leadership approach aimed at improving service delivery,” Tako said.

The new Area Controller outlined a six-point agenda for the Command, which includes strengthening anti-smuggling operations, enhancing collaboration with stakeholders, engaging border communities, promoting transparency and professionalism, improving revenue generation, and prioritising the welfare and motivation of officers.

He further urged officers and men of the Command to remain disciplined, diligent, and committed to the core values of the Nigeria Customs Service as he begins his tenure.
