COAS to Sokoto Troops: Keep Pressure on Bandits, Terrorists

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the 8 Division Nigerian Army and the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to sustain the current operational momentum and decisively crush bandits and terrorists operating within the North-West region.

Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the charge on Friday, while addressing officers and soldiers of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela, Sokoto State, during an operational visit to formations and units under the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

The visit formed part of efforts to assess ongoing operations, boost troop morale, and reinforce strategic directives for the conduct of military activities in the region.

The Army Chief commended the troops for their gallantry, professionalism, and resilience in confronting criminal elements whose activities have inflicted hardship on innocent Nigerians. He praised the operational gains recorded so far, noting that sustained military pressure has led to noticeable improvements in security across parts of the division’s area of responsibility.

“I commend you for your courage, professionalism, and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have translated into improved security in your area of responsibility. You must maintain the momentum to further annihilate the terrorists and bandits. We can no longer tolerate their excesses against the Nigerian people,” the COAS said.

Lieutenant General Shaibu further reassured the troops of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and well-being. He directed the construction of additional accommodation, medical, and other essential facilities at Illela Barracks to enhance the morale, living conditions, and operational effectiveness of personnel and their families.

The COAS urged the troops to remain disciplined, vigilant, and professional at all times, stressing the need for sustained collaboration with other security agencies and continued engagement with local communities to consolidate recent gains.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to rid the North-West of banditry and terrorism, assuring Nigerians that the Army remains committed to safeguarding lives, property, and national stability.
