Army Rescues 8 Abducted Victims Along Cameroon Waterways
Troops of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army have successfully rescued eight civilians who were abducted along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways, following a swift and coordinated operation by forces stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ikang.
The operation was launched after credible intelligence from local community members indicated that suspected militants had intercepted a commercial boat and kidnapped six adults and two minors on 29 December 2025. Acting promptly, the troops deployed to pursue the perpetrators, simultaneously blocking potential escape routes and asserting control over the waterways.

The militants, faced with the rapid military response, abandoned the victims at the Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into the creeks toward the high sea. The Nigerian Army successfully recovered all eight civilians, who were safely transported to the Brigade’s base, documented, and later released unharmed. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
Brigadier General PO Alimikhena, Commander of 13 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism, swift response, and dedication to protecting lives and property. He also expressed gratitude to the local community for providing timely and credible information that was pivotal to the success of the mission.
“The Brigade remains committed to maintaining aggressive patrols and denying criminal elements freedom of action within the area,” Brigadier General Alimikhena stated, urging the public to continue supporting security agencies with prompt and reliable information.
The operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s resolve to ensure the safety of civilians and to curb criminal activities along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways.
