Troops Dismantle Terrorist Camps, Recover Arms, Destroy IEDs in Sambisa Forest Offensive
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have destroyed multiple terrorist camps, recovered arms and ammunition, and safely detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs during sustained offensive operations under Operation Desert Sanity V in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.
Military sources revealed that the coordinated operations were conducted between December 29 and 30, involving troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade and 26 Task Force Brigade, operating alongside volunteer forces.
According to the sources, troops on December 29, at about 9:00 a.m., advanced from their harbour area and cleared several deserted terrorist enclaves around the Dure axis, before moving towards the Century Wolf area, south of Dure. Although the terrain was heavily forested, no significant items were recovered during the initial clearance.
The troops later advanced to the Sabil Huda enclave, which was assessed to be highly active but had been abandoned by the terrorists prior to their arrival. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams subsequently scanned the area to enable safe exploitation.

During the operation, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, 37 rounds of 7.62x54mm ammunition, 38 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, 33 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, and two hand grenades. Several terrorist life-support structures were destroyed, while four additional IEDs discovered in the area were safely detonated.
In a follow-up operation on December 30, at about 10:30 a.m., combined troops advanced from the Harbour area to multiple identified objectives within the forest, including the Ukuba axis, a terrorist camp behind Ukuba, Parisu, Somalia Camp, and Njimiya areas.
The sources said all the targeted enclaves were previously active, but the terrorists fled ahead of the troops’ arrival, likely due to earlier military strikes within the general area. Troops destroyed additional life-support structures and recovered one 81mm mortar base plate and one hand grenade during exploitation.
The sources further noted that troops observed clear evidence of the impact of previous strikes on the terrorist camp behind Ukuba, underscoring sustained pressure on insurgent elements in the Sambisa Forest.
Operation Desert Sanity V, the military said, remains ongoing as troops continue to dominate the area, deny terrorists freedom of movement, and degrade their operational capabilities.
