Troops Foil Suicide Attacks, Kill Three Bombers in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled planned suicide attacks in Borno State after neutralising three terrorist suicide bombers during an intelligence-led operation along the Guduf–Pulka axis in Gwoza Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out through covert intelligence efforts by troops in collaboration with local volunteer forces, led to the tracking and interception of the bombers before they could strike civilian targets.

According to the military, the suicide bombers were killed during an encounter with troops, while suicide vests and other improvised explosive device materials found in their possession were recovered and safely secured.

The troops were also said to have inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorist escorts accompanying the bombers, forcing surviving elements to flee into the Mandara Mountains under sustained military pressure.

During the exploitation of the area, troops recovered four AK-47 rifles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, while two motorcycles used by the group were destroyed.

Preliminary intelligence assessments indicated that the neutralised suicide bombers were dispatched from the Mandara Mountains by the Ali Ngulde-led Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad faction of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

This was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer

Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI in a statement on Thursday.

The Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai said troops had intensified efforts to detect, track and neutralise suicide bombers and other terrorist elements operating from the enclave, leveraging human intelligence, communication intercepts and other intelligence-gathering capabilities.

The military added that collaboration had also been strengthened with other security agencies and community-based volunteer forces across Borno and Yobe states to forestall attacks on soft targets and protect civilians.

In addition, public enlightenment campaigns have been intensified to encourage residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or persons within their communities.

Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive pressure on terrorist elements, degrading their operational capabilities and ensuring the safety and security of residents within the North-East theatre of operations.
