Military Breaks Suicide Bomb Ring Linked to Gamboru Mosque Attack

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have dismantled a suicide bombing network linked to the recent attack on the Gamboru Market Mosque, recording major operational successes in Adamawa State through intelligence-driven operations.

The breakthrough followed intensified cordon-and-search operations targeting the perpetrators and facilitators of the deadly attack. Acting on sustained surveillance and actionable intelligence, OPHK troops, in the early hours of January 5, 2026, conducted a coordinated operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of eight suspects.

Among those apprehended were two principal suspects identified as key facilitators within the suicide bombing network. A search of the suspects’ residence resulted in the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery and other personal effects, all of which are undergoing forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations.

Military sources disclosed that during identification procedures, a suspect already in custody positively identified the two principal suspects as individuals who supplied materials used in preparing the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) deployed in the mosque attack. Other occupants of the residence were also linked to the network.

All suspects remain in military custody and are currently undergoing detailed interrogation to enable further intelligence exploitation before being handed over for continued investigation and prosecution.

In a related operation, troops of Operation HADIN KAI intercepted a large consignment of suspected terrorists’ logistics in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State, on January 4, 2026. The troops seized 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), amounting to approximately 1,125 litres, believed to have been smuggled to support terrorist activities.

The suppliers reportedly fled on sighting the troops, abandoning the petroleum products, which have since been secured by the military. The operation was conducted without casualties.

According to the Theatre Command, the twin operations underscore OPHK’s unwavering resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and supply chains, and prevent future attacks across the North-East.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to sustaining peace and security in the region.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements and ensuring the safety of innocent citizens within the theatre of operations.
