Shettima: FG Will Continue to Back Armed Forces to Defeat Insecurity

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening and empowering the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the fight against insecurity across the country.

Shettima gave the assurance on Friday during a special Jumma’a prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja, to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

He said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains resolute in providing the military with the necessary support to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protect the lives and property of citizens.

According to the Vice President, sustained backing for the Armed Forces is central to the government’s broader strategy to overcome security challenges and promote national unity and development.

Shettima also paid tribute to officers and men of the Armed Forces who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as the ultimate price paid for the peace and stability of the nation.

“Our fallen soldiers paid the supreme price in defence of this country. Their bravery and selflessness will never be forgotten,” he said.

During the prayer session, the Vice President offered prayers for the repose of the souls of deceased military personnel and asked God to grant strength and comfort to their families. He also sought divine protection and empowerment for serving officers and men of the Armed Forces as they continue to confront security threats nationwide.

PRNigeria reports that January 15 is observed annually by the Federal Government to honour the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The annual event was recently renamed from Armed Forces Remembrance Day to Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day to reflect its dual purpose of celebrating serving personnel while remembering fallen heroes.
