AFCRD 2026: We’ll Root Out All Threats, Local and Foreign — CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Olufemi Oluyede, has vowed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will relentlessly pursue and eliminate all threats to the country’s security, whether domestic or foreign.

Oluyede gave the assurance in Abuja during his goodwill message to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, stressing that the military would give no quarter to groups or individuals bent on undermining Nigeria’s peace, unity and sovereignty.

According to the CDS, the Armed Forces remain resolute and battle-ready to confront insecurity across all theatres of operation, warning that adversaries of the nation would continue to face disappointment.

“The Armed Forces shall give no quarter. We will not mortgage the cradle of our national heritage and security at any time,” Oluyede said, adding that both local and trans-border threats would be decisively dealt with.

He paid glowing tribute to fallen officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as the price paid for the peace and liberty Nigerians enjoy today. He urged citizens to remember the families of the fallen, noting that their resilience and strength in the face of loss remain a source of national inspiration.

Oluyede also commended serving officers and men for their professionalism, courage and unwavering commitment, often under extremely challenging and dangerous conditions. He said their “battle scars” were a testament to their devotion to duty and determination to defend the country’s democratic values.

Reiterating that troop welfare remains a top priority, the CDS said the military leadership would continue to strengthen joint operations, enhance professionalism and improve welfare and administration in line with his strategic philosophy aimed at reinforcing operational effectiveness.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast leadership and sustained support to the Armed Forces, assuring Nigerians that the military remains fully committed to defending the nation’s territorial integrity.

The CDS also called on Nigerians to promote unity and reject divisive tendencies, stressing that national security is a collective responsibility.

“As we honour our fallen heroes and celebrate our serving personnel, let us strengthen our bond as one nation,” Oluyede said. “Together, we can secure a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for Nigeria.”
