With Improved Troops’ Welfare, Nigeria Will Defeat Insecurity — Musa
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of Nigerian troops and their families, insisting that improved care and support for the Armed Forces remains critical to defeating insecurity across the country.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), gave the assurance on Sunday in Abuja during an inter-denominational service held as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
Musa said the Federal Government was resolute in ensuring that officers and men of the Armed Forces, as well as their families, were adequately supported to enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria.
According to him, sustained attention to troops’ welfare, morale and operational needs would strengthen the military’s capacity to overcome terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges confronting the nation.
“We honour with deep reverence the brave men and women who paid the supreme price in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the minister said.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his unwavering commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces, noting that the President’s support had continued to boost morale among serving personnel.

Musa also called on Nigerians to support government efforts and work closely with the security agencies, stressing that victory over insecurity would require collective resolve and national unity.
“We shall overcome these challenges,” he added.
Delivering the sermon at the service, the Most Rev. Uche Okafor of the Presbyterian Church, Abuja, urged members of the Armed Forces not to be discouraged by the enormity of the task before them, describing soldiers as defenders who confront danger when others flee.
Quoting from 2 Chronicles 32:5–8, Okafor said the military deserved encouragement and gratitude from all Nigerians for their sacrifices, noting that their service extended beyond the nation to God and humanity.
He prayed for spiritual security and divine protection for Nigerian troops, while expressing optimism that the country would overcome its security challenges.
The cleric, however, cautioned the military to remain neutral and patriotic as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
Dignitaries at the event included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr Richard Pheelangwah; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu; representatives of the Chiefs of Naval and Air Staff; the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Udieandeye; members of the National Assembly, the diplomatic corps, heads of ministries and agencies, and senior military officers.
