Pressure Mounts on Boko Haram as Troops Kill Fighters, Force Surrenders
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have sustained intense offensive operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists across Borno State, killing several fighters, destroying key enclaves and forcing 11 terrorists to surrender.
The military offensive, conducted under Operation Desert Sanity V, recorded major successes along the Azir–Wajiroko axis, where sustained pressure by troops on January 10, 2026, compelled 11 terrorist fighters to lay down their arms. The surrendered fighters handed over AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition to the troops.
A statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, confirmed the update yesterday.

Earlier, on January 9, 2026, troops carried out extensive clearance operations in the Bulaagalda cluster, dismantling multiple active terrorist camps at Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri and Umchile. Among the destroyed locations were the notorious Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed camps, long used as operational and logistics hubs by the terrorists.
During the clearance operations, troops destroyed life-support infrastructure, degraded terrorist logistics networks and recovered items including terrorist flags, weapons and magazines. Similar offensive actions in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas forced fleeing terrorists to abandon additional logistics facilities, leading to the recovery of more arms, ammunition and a general-purpose machine gun.
In a related operation based on credible intelligence, troops engaged JAS/ISWAP elements between Sojiri and Kayamla villages, neutralising eight terrorists and recovering AK-47 rifles.
The military also arrested two suspected terrorist logistics collaborators in Gubio Local Government Area for allegedly supplying materials and support to the insurgents.
The Armed Forces said the sustained operations reflect the resolve of troops to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace in the North-East.
