Over 100 Children Killed in Gaza Despite Ceasefire – UNICEF Raises Alarm
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has disclosed that more than 100 children have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire that took effect in early October, raising fresh concerns about the safety of civilians, particularly minors, in the conflict-hit territory.
Speaking on Tuesday during a United Nations press briefing via video link from Gaza, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said the deaths occurred despite a noticeable reduction in hostilities following the ceasefire.
“More than 100 children have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire of early October,” Elder said, noting that while bombings and shootings had slowed, they had not completely ceased. “Survival remains conditional,” he added.

According to UNICEF, the fatalities included about 60 boys and 40 girls, most of whom were killed during military operations. Elder explained that the causes of death ranged from airstrikes, drone and quadcopter attacks, tank shelling, and gunfire, to explosions from remnants of war.
He added that a small number of the deaths were linked to unexploded ordnance left behind from previous fighting.
Elder cautioned that the reported figure was likely an underestimation, as it was based only on cases where sufficient and verifiable information was available.
The disclosure underscores growing humanitarian concerns in Gaza, particularly regarding the continued vulnerability of children even during periods officially described as ceasefires.
