Army Stations Troops in Sokoto Border Community after Bandit threats

The Nigerian Army has deployed troops to Tidibale community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State following threats by bandits, as part of efforts to restore confidence, ensure safety and prevent a return of criminal elements.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj. Gen. Bemgba Paul Koughna, disclosed this during an assessment visit to the community on Sunday.

Koughna said the deployment was aimed at maintaining a robust security presence in Tidibale after residents, who had earlier fled due to bandit threats, began returning to their homes. He assured the community that troops would remain vigilant and ready to respond swiftly to any security challenge.

“The Nigerian Army is fully committed to protecting lives and property. Troops have been stationed here to ensure that no part of this community is taken over by bandits,” the GOC said.

He added that the visit formed part of his initial operational assessment following his assumption of command, stressing that restoring normalcy would allow residents to resume farming and other daily activities without fear.

Koughna also urged community members to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities, noting that effective security required collaboration between troops and local residents.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the Sarkin Arewa of Tidibale, Alhaji Ibrahim, thanked the Army for the timely intervention, describing the GOC’s visit as reassuring amid prevailing security concerns in the area.

He said the renewed military presence had restored hope among residents and expressed confidence that sustained Army operations would bring lasting peace to the community and its environs.

Earlier, the GOC received an operational briefing from the Commanding Officer, 26 Battalion, Lt. Col. Nasiru Mustapha, at the Forward Operating Base in Isa, where he was briefed on the security situation and ongoing operations within the area.

The Army reaffirmed its resolve to continue working with local communities and other stakeholders to consolidate security gains and ensure lasting stability across Sokoto State and the wider North West region.
