El-Rufai to Lead Panel at 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue on Nigeria’s Democratic Journey
Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, is set to lead a high-powered panel of speakers at the 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue, where stakeholders will critically examine the trajectory of Nigeria’s democratic experience since the return to civil rule in 1999.
The dialogue, themed “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What Is Working and What Is Not,” will hold this Thursday at the NAF Conference Centre and Suites, Abuja. Organised by the Media Trust Group, the forum is designed to assess the nation’s political and socio-economic evolution over the past 26 years and explore pathways for strengthening democratic governance.
In a statement signed by Ahmed I. Shekarau, Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Group, the organisers confirmed that El-Rufai will be joined on the panel by Hon. Nnenna Elendu Ukeje, former two-term Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
The organisers said the choice of speakers reflects a deliberate effort to draw from extensive experience across the executive, legislative and media sectors.
El-Rufai, a first-class graduate of Quantity Surveying and a Harvard-trained public policy expert, has played prominent roles throughout Nigeria’s Fourth Republic. His public service career includes stints as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and two terms as Governor of Kaduna State.

Mr. Dare, a seasoned journalist and former Minister of Youth and Sports, adds a media and policy dimension to the dialogue. He has a background in international studies and media policy and has benefited from fellowships at institutions such as Oxford, Harvard and New York University.
The 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue will be chaired by former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and is expected to attract a wide range of participants from across the political and economic spectrum. These include leaders of major political parties, serving and former governors and lawmakers, members of the diplomatic community, as well as representatives of youth and women’s organisations.
Since its inception in 2004, the Daily Trust Dialogue has established itself as a leading platform for intellectual engagement in West Africa. Previous editions have featured notable African and global figures, including former President of Botswana Festus Mogae, philanthropist Dr. Mo Ibrahim, and the late former Ghanaian leader Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings.
According to the organisers, this year’s edition will focus on identifying gaps in Nigeria’s democratic governance while consolidating the gains achieved over the last quarter-century.
Interested participants are encouraged to register online or in person at the NAF Conference Centre on the day of the event.
