Army Eliminates Scores of Terrorists, Arrests 23 Suspects, Recovers Arms Nationwide

The Nigerian Army has recorded major operational successes across several parts of the country within the last 48 hours, neutralising a terrorist, arresting 23 suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, child trafficking and other criminal activities, and recovering weapons and ammunition in a series of intelligence-led operations.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Army said the coordinated actions were carried out in the South-East, South-South, North-Central, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the North-East/Benue–Taraba axis as part of ongoing efforts to enhance internal security and protect lives and property.

In the South-East and South-South zones, troops apprehended a suspected Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) spy in Anambra State. Two alleged child traffickers were also arrested in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

In Edo State, security forces detained four suspected kidnappers and recovered two cutlasses and other items. Troops also foiled a kidnapping attempt on a serving soldier in Okpella, forcing the abductors to flee and successfully rescuing the victim without injury. Another four suspected kidnappers were later arrested along the Afua–Ekpoma Road in the state.

Across the North-Central region and the FCT, troops arrested four suspected violent extremists in Gwagwalada Area Council. In Nasarawa State, two individuals impersonating military and police personnel were apprehended, while seven suspected kidnappers were arrested in Toto and Doma Local Government Areas.

Recovered items from the operations included a machete, a dagger, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, among other exhibits.

In the North-East/Benue–Taraba axis, troops on a fighting patrol in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State engaged violent extremists in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist and apprehending another. In Taraba State, troops responding to a kidnapping incident rescued two abducted victims along the Wukari–Ikyior Road after the criminals fled upon sighting the military.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property nationwide and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

According to the Army, sustained public cooperation and collective vigilance remain critical to strengthening national security and maintaining confidence in ongoing operations.
