Plateau Operations Key to National Stability — COAS tells Troops
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, to remain disciplined, committed and professional, stressing that their operations in Plateau State are critical to Nigeria’s national stability.
Shaibu gave the charge on Monday during an operational visit to the Headquarters of 3 Division in Jos, where he addressed officers and soldiers on the evolving security situation in Plateau and the need for sustained professionalism in the conduct of military duties.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col Appolonia Anele.
According to the statement, COAS described discipline as the foundation of military service, reminding personnel that service in the Nigerian Army is voluntary and anchored on the noble responsibility of defending the nation’s territorial integrity and internal security.
The army chief said he had received detailed briefings from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division on operational and welfare challenges confronting troops in the state, adding that key concerns had already been identified and addressed by the Army Headquarters.
According to him, the Army is providing necessary combat enablers to ensure troops are adequately equipped to carry out their responsibilities effectively, while assuring that the welfare of personnel remains a top priority of the high command.

“The welfare of our troops is critical. We will continue to provide the enabling environment for you to do your job properly,” the COAS said.
Shaibu urged young soldiers to respect the chain of command and seek guidance from their superiors, noting that officers have a responsibility to mentor subordinates towards professional growth and successful military careers.
He also emphasised the importance of physical fitness and mental alertness, explaining that deliberate measures have been put in place to prepare personnel for the rigours of military operations.
Highlighting leadership at all levels, the COAS described Senior Non-Commissioned Officers as the vital link between officers and soldiers, urging them to provide effective middle-level leadership and uphold military standards.
On ongoing operations in Plateau State, he said the security environment remained unique, assuring troops that Operation Enduring Peace was being properly guided and supported to achieve its mandate.
Shaibu further encouraged personnel to channel grievances through the appropriate chain of command, assuring them that legitimate concerns would receive prompt attention.
As part of his visit, the COAS commissioned two blocks of 30 flats for Non-Commissioned Officers and a separate residential block for officers at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, as part of ongoing efforts to improve troops’ welfare and living conditions.
He reaffirmed that the sacrifices of officers and soldiers are appreciated by the nation, urging them to remain proud of their service and to discharge their duties with honour and professionalism.
