
COAS: Plateau Security Is a Top Priority
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has assured that Plateau State will witness lasting peace as the Nigerian Army intensifies efforts to stabilise the security situation and protect lives and property across the state.
Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the assurance on Tuesday, during a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, at the Government House in Jos
, as part of his operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in the state.
The Army Chief commended the Plateau State Government for its sustained support to the Nigerian Army, particularly the Armoured Corps, describing the state as a strategic partner and the proud home of the Corps.
He noted that while the security challenges confronting Plateau are complex, they remain surmountable through effective collaboration, intelligence sharing, and the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
According to him, the Nigerian Army remains unwavering in its commitment to deploying personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and restore normalcy across affected communities. “With all hands on deck, enduring peace on the Plateau is achievable,” the COAS said, stressing that the Army would continue to work closely with state authorities, other security agencies, and local communities.

Governor Mutfwang, in his response, congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and wished him a successful tenure.
The governor praised the sacrifices, professionalism, and gallantry of Nigerian Army personnel nationwide, noting that despite being stretched by multiple deployments across the country, the Army has continued to demonstrate resilience and commitment.
He particularly commended troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE for their proactive operations, which he said ensured peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State. Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic security operations, while calling for sustained collaboration to address residual security challenges in some parts of the state.
As part of the visit, the COAS also paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, where he reiterated the Nigerian Army’s resolve to fully restore peace on the Plateau. The traditional ruler appreciated the visit and pledged continued support, including sensitising youths and communities to sustain the peace achieved so far.
The visit underscored the importance of strong civil–military cooperation involving the Army, state governments, and traditional institutions as a critical pillar for achieving lasting peace, stability, and national security.
