Ground Troops, Surveillance Deployed in Hunt for Kurmin Wali Kidnappers – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that ground troops, supported by surveillance and intelligence assets, have been deployed to intensify efforts aimed at rescuing victims abducted from Kurmin Wali community.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) said the operations are part of sustained, intelligence-driven efforts being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the captives.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military acknowledged concerns expressed by displaced residents of Kurmin Wali over the fate of their abducted relatives, assuring that the rescue of the victims remains a top priority.
According to the DHQ, contrary to claims of a weakened response, troops have been conducting coordinated ground patrols, surveillance missions, and targeted intelligence operations within the general area and surrounding forests suspected to be the hideouts of the kidnappers.

“The operations involve a combination of ground manoeuvres, surveillance, intelligence gathering, and carefully planned actions designed to locate the perpetrators and rescue the victims without endangering their lives,” the statement said.
The military explained that what may appear as operational restraint in certain instances is a deliberate and calculated approach aimed at preventing harm to the hostages, stressing that sensitive operational details could not be disclosed for security reasons.
While empathising with the anguish of affected families, the AFN reaffirmed its resolve to dismantle the criminal networks behind the abductions and reunite all kidnapped persons with their loved ones.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains unwavering in its constitutional mandate to protect lives and property and is fully committed to ensuring the safe rescue and reintegration of the Kurmin Wali kidnap victims,” the DHQ added.
The military also appealed to members of the public to remain patient and continue to support security forces with credible information as operations progress toward a successful conclusion.
