Emir of Ilorin Appoints Former NIMASA Director Prince Aliyu Abdulkadir as District Head of Ballah
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has approved the appointment of Prince Aliyu Kolapo Abdulkadir as the new District Head of Ballah in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The appointment followed a competitive selection process within the Ilorin Emirate, during which Prince Abdulkadir emerged as the preferred candidate among several contenders for the historic traditional position.
Prince Abdulkadir, 68, combines royal heritage with extensive professional experience. He is a direct son of the 10th Emir of Ilorin, the late Alhaji Aliyu Abdulqadir Baba Agba, a lineage that underscores his deep-rooted connection to the Emirate’s traditional institution.

In addition to his royal background, the new district head has a distinguished public service career. He retired as a Director with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), where he served for several years in Lagos. A trained legal scholar, he also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree, which observers say equips him with strong administrative and intellectual capacity for traditional leadership.
Formally confirming the appointment, the Emir of Ilorin offered prayers for a peaceful and successful reign for the new district head, expressing hope that he would lead with wisdom and fairness.
“May he be granted the wisdom to govern his domain with justice,” the Emir said, praying for divine guidance and protection over his tenure.
The announcement, conveyed in a statement signed by the Emir’s Personal Assistant, Dr. Abdulraheem Muritala, highlights the Emirate’s continued emphasis on selecting leaders who embody both traditional values and modern administrative competence.
The Ballah community, located in the strategic Asa Local Government axis, is expected to organise a formal reception to welcome Prince Abdulkadir as he assumes responsibility as custodian of the area’s customs, culture and heritage.
