Tinubu Hosts New Tax Ombudsman as Revenue Reforms Deepen
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received Nigeria’s newly appointed Tax Ombudsman, Mr. John Nwabueze, at the State House, Abuja, in a move aimed at deepening transparency and strengthening accountability in the country’s tax administration system.
The meeting comes as the Tinubu administration advances far-reaching reforms targeted at improving revenue governance, reducing inefficiencies, and creating a more predictable fiscal environment for citizens and businesses.
The Office of the Tax Ombudsman, recently established by the Federal Government, is a key component of the President’s economic reform agenda. It is designed to enhance transparency, improve dispute resolution mechanisms, curb multiple taxation, and protect individuals and businesses from excessive or arbitrary fiscal demands.

According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the new office will function as an independent channel for addressing complaints related to taxes, levies, customs duties, and other regulatory charges. The initiative is expected to promote fairness in tax administration while strengthening trust between taxpayers and government institutions.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, were also present at the meeting.
Officials said the reform would significantly enhance public sector accountability, boost investor confidence, and improve Nigeria’s overall competitiveness. They noted that the establishment of the Tax Ombudsman lays a solid foundation for inclusive economic growth and long-term macroeconomic stability.
The Tinubu administration has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to institutional reforms as part of broader efforts to stabilize the economy and expand government revenue without placing undue burden on citizens.
