Banditry Suspect Arrested in Bauchi as Gunmen Kill 2 Security Operatives in Plateau
Security operations against banditry recorded mixed outcomes in Bauchi and Plateau states, with a suspected bandit arrested in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi, while two security personnel were killed and two others declared missing following an ambush in Plateau State.
In Bauchi, operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Mohammed Ibrahim of Jauro Iliya, during a surveillance operation on February 5 at about 4:00 p.m. in the Mansur area near Bunga settlement.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was allegedly found armed with a rifle at a black market Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sales point. He reportedly fired shots into the air in an attempt to evade arrest but was pursued and apprehended by JTF operatives.
The suspect is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend any accomplices.

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, suspected bandits attacked a joint security team under Operation Enduring Peace in Zurak community, Wase Local Government Area, killing two personnel and carting away their rifles.
The attack occurred on February 3 at about 1:00 p.m. when gunmen ambushed the team while on routine duty in the area.
The deceased were identified as Inspector Igba Terseer (AP/No. 302410) of the 66 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Shendam, and a soldier attached to Operation Enduring Peace. According to sources, the attackers opened fire on the personnel, killing the inspector and the soldier before fleeing with their service rifles. Two other soldiers were reported missing following the incident.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bashar mobilised a combined team of police officers and other security agencies to the scene.
Security authorities said coordinated search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the missing personnel, apprehend the attackers and recover the stolen weapons.
The incidents underscore the continuing security challenges in parts of the North-Central and North-East regions, even as security agencies intensify operations and urge residents to provide timely information on suspicious movements and criminal activities within their communities.
