DSS Arrests 2 Suspects Linked to Murder of 4 Soldiers in Delta

Three years after the brutal killing of four soldiers in Ashaka Aboh, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested and arraigned two suspects allegedly linked to the crime.

The suspects, identified as Ufuoma Sunday James and Lawrence Umuakpero Oboguayivwgue, were apprehended in January 2026 following what security sources described as sustained intelligence gathering and covert investigations. They have since been arraigned before a Delta State High Court sitting in Kwale and remanded in a correctional facility pending trial.

The arrest is connected to the February 2023 ambush of military personnel deployed on a peacekeeping mission during a communal crisis between Kwale and Asemoku communities in Ndokwa East LGA. The soldiers were reportedly attacked by armed hoodlums allegedly led by James, resulting in the death of four personnel and the theft of their weapons.

In addition to the murder of the soldiers, the suspects were also implicated in the beheading of Chief Okwudili Obi, popularly known as Odumodu, the self-proclaimed traditional ruler of Asemoku Community, during the same period of unrest.

Credible security sources disclosed that the DSS had been investigating the incident for over a year before receiving actionable intelligence that led to the arrests.

“DSS operatives have been investigating the case for over a year. In January this year, they received precise intelligence which culminated in the arrest of the suspects,” a source revealed.

According to the source, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the killings and admitted to participating in other criminal activities, including gun-running, kidnapping, and related violent offenses.

“The suspects have been arraigned before a State High Court in Kwale, where the presiding judge ordered their remand in a correctional centre pending the commencement of trial,” the source added.

Another security official described the development as a significant milestone in the agency’s efforts to resolve long-standing criminal cases.

“This arrest represents a major breakthrough in the DSS’ ongoing investigations into cold cases, underscoring the agency’s determination to ensure justice, regardless of how much time has passed,” the official said.

He further noted that the operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence efforts in reopening dormant cases and sends a strong message that violent crimes—particularly those targeting security personnel—will not go unpunished.
