Army Chief Deploys Special Forces to Plateau Over Resurgent Banditry
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of a Special Forces Intervention Battalion to Plateau State following a resurgence of banditry attacks in parts of the state.
The troops, drawn from the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, have already arrived in Plateau and are expected to reinforce ongoing security operations aimed at decisively tackling criminal elements threatening peace in the area.
Receiving the contingent at the Headquarters of 3 Division, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, charged the troops to remain resolute and uncompromising in their offensive against bandits. He was represented at the reception by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brigadier General Senlong Sule.

The GOC described the deployment as a timely intervention that would significantly enhance ongoing efforts to restore normalcy across affected communities. He commended the proactive leadership of the COAS for providing critical combat enablers and logistics support necessary for the effective execution of the troops’ mandate.
Major General Oyinlola also appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain calm amid increased troop movements and the deployment of heavy military equipment. He reassured citizens that the presence of additional forces is aimed solely at strengthening security and safeguarding lives and property.
While appreciating the sustained cooperation of the public, the GOC called for continued support through the provision of credible and timely intelligence on the activities and locations of criminal elements, noting that such collaboration remains vital to achieving lasting peace in the state.
