Kogi Police Eliminate Armed Robber as 200 Vigilantes Deployed to Strengthen Security in Niger State
Security agencies in Kogi and Niger states have taken decisive steps to combat crime and bolster law enforcement, following a deadly shootout in Lokoja and a strategic deployment of vigilante personnel to Ibbi.
In Kogi State, the police reported neutralizing an armed robber during a shootout in Indori Community, Lokoja, on Feb. 8 at about 4:30 a.m. Sources said roughly 20 armed robbers engaged security operatives in a fierce exchange of gunfire. One middle-aged suspect, yet to be identified, was shot in the chest and rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, where he was confirmed dead. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

Items recovered at the scene included a navy blue school bag containing multiple mobile phones, seven power banks, an earpod, a silver wristwatch, a cutlass, two kitchen knives, slippers, a black fez cap, and a black polo. Security operatives also retrieved seven empty AK-47 cartridges, five empty cartridges, and four spent teargas shells. The police confirmed that photographs were taken at the scene and that investigations, intelligence gathering, and surveillance are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, in Niger State, about 200 vigilante men from Nasarawa State were deployed to Ibbi at approximately 4:18 p.m. on Feb. 8 to support local security agencies. The Niger State Police reported that the deployment, conducted under directives from the Executive Governor, aims to strengthen joint operations with local vigilantes and the police in addressing security challenges in Ibbi and surrounding communities. Monitoring of the situation continues, with further updates expected.
Authorities in both states reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to cooperate with security personnel.
