JUST IN: Tinubu Writes Senate, Seeks Confirmation of New NAHCON Chairman
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), subject to Senate confirmation.
The President formally conveyed the nomination in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, requesting the expeditious confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.
If confirmed, Ambassador Yusuf will replace Professor Abdullahi Usman, who resigned earlier this week after serving approximately 14 months in office.

Ambassador Yusuf is a seasoned Nigerian career diplomat. He recently served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024. His nomination is seen as part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Hajj Commission and strengthen its leadership ahead of upcoming pilgrimage operations.
NAHCON is the federal agency responsible for regulating and supervising Hajj and Umrah activities for Nigerian pilgrims.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
