Kano Police Arrest 6 Over Stolen Tricycles, Recover Vehicles Worth N7m
The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property, following the recovery of two stolen tricycles valued at over ₦7 million.
The information was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
The suspects – Salim Zakari, 20; Faruk Abubakar, 17; Yusuf Garba, 20; Mastur Shehu, 19; and Safiyanu Suleiman, 23 – were apprehended after a complaint was lodged by Ayuba Muhammad, who reported that his tricycle was stolen on January 24, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m. at Panshekara Quarters in Kano.
According to the police, the stolen tricycle, bearing Registration Number BBR 195 CB and KAROTA Number KMC 1229, and valued at ₦3.5 million, was sold to one Umar Bello Dahiru, 24, for ₦2.6 million.

Further investigation revealed that the same suspects had earlier stolen another tricycle from the residence of Abdullahi Adamu in Yankusa Quarters, Kano. The second tricycle was also allegedly sold to Dahiru for ₦2.7 million.
Police said discreet investigations led to the arrest of Dahiru, who was found in possession of the two stolen tricycles. A horse valued at ₦800,000, reportedly purchased by the principal suspects with proceeds from the crime, was also recovered.
Dahiru reportedly confessed to buying the tricycles with the knowledge that they were stolen.
The recovered tricycles have since been handed over to their rightful owners, Ayuba Muhammad and Abdullahi Adamu, while investigations are ongoing.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. The Command stated that its operations align with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained intelligence-led policing.
