NAF Commissions New Facilities in Kaduna, Trains Pilots for Advanced Aircraft Fleets
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified preparations for the induction of modern combat platforms with the commissioning of key infrastructural projects at NAF Base Kaduna, aimed at enhancing pilot training and operational readiness.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, on Thursday commissioned the projects, describing them as critical investments in grooming the next generation of pilots who will operate the Service’s incoming advanced aircraft.
“In this regard, the completion of the Student Pilots’ Quarters is a major step in preparing pilots who will operate modern advanced aircraft, enabling the projection of smart and decisive airpower to eliminate terrorist threats while safeguarding our people,” Air Marshal Aneke said.
He explained that the development aligns with his command philosophy of building a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower in synergy with ground forces to achieve national security objectives.
“My mission here is not just about buildings but about fulfilling my command philosophy, to enhance and sustain a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower effects in synergy with surface forces for the realisation of national security objectives,” he stated.
The CAS also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support to the Armed Forces and commitment to strengthening national security.
He particularly commended the President’s bilateral engagements with the Republic of Türkiye, which he said facilitated the acquisition of advanced helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for the NAF.

He said the acquisitions are designed to enhance operational effectiveness across the full spectrum of air operations, including counterterrorism and internal security missions.
The projects commissioned at the Kaduna base include six blocks of 12 one-bedroom Student Pilots’ Quarters, a block of six three-bedroom flats initiated by the Ministry of Defence and completed by the NAF, and a block of 30 one-bedroom studio apartments for personnel of the Military Training Centre.
Air Marshal Aneke urged officers and airmen to uphold discipline and professionalism in the use and maintenance of the facilities.
“Use these structures with care and a deep sense of responsibility. Let them reflect a strong culture of maintenance and pride, ensuring they remain a source of comfort and dignity for current and future occupants,” he charged.
He acknowledged the foresight of former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal HB Abubakar, for initiating the project, and commended the Logistics Branch, the Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command, as well as contractors for timely execution. He also appreciated the Federal Government and the leadership of the National Assembly for facilitating the fiscal releases that enabled completion of the projects.
In his welcome address, the Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal EP Efanga, described the new facilities as a milestone in strengthening both operational readiness and personnel welfare.
He noted that the infrastructure will significantly enhance the training environment for student pilots and position the Service to effectively operate the advanced platforms expected to shape the future of the Nigerian Air Force.
Reaffirming the Service’s commitment to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the CAS pledged continued dedication to ensuring a safe, secure, and prosperous Nigeria through enhanced airpower capability.
