Troops Kill Suspected Terrorist, Destroy Enclave in Benue
Troops of Sector 1 under Operation WHIRL STROKE have neutralised a suspected terrorist and dismantled an enclave during a clearance operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation, which took place on February 9, 2026, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected terrorists at Kumeh Village in Katsina-Ala LGA. Acting on the tip-off, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area to intercept the suspects and prevent further criminal activities.
On arrival at the village, the soldiers reportedly came under fire, resulting in a fierce exchange. One of the suspects was neutralised during the encounter, while others fled the scene as troops advanced and overwhelmed the enclave.
Military sources disclosed that the operation led to the destruction of the identified terrorist hideout, effectively disrupting the group’s activities in the area.

Items recovered from the scene include one G3 rifle, a G3 magazine, an AK-47 rifle magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, and six rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition. Troops also recovered a vehicular radio, a camouflage vest and other sundry items. A follow-up search of the surrounding area did not uncover additional threats or suspicious materials.
The Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism during the operation. He stated that deserving personnel would be recommended for recognition in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of rewarding excellence and gallantry.
Gara also appreciated members of the local community for providing timely and credible intelligence that aided the swift response of the troops. He reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to sustaining aggressive patrols and strengthening collaboration with residents to eliminate terrorist elements and restore lasting peace in the region.
Operation WHIRL STROKE has continued to intensify confidence-building and fighting patrols across parts of Benue State as part of ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the area.
