Tincan Island Customs Rakes in N145.9bn in January, Targets Faster Cargo Clearance
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command, generated ₦145.9 billion in revenue in January 2026, marking an increase of ₦25.9 billion compared to the ₦116.412 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, disclosed this on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, during a media parley with journalists at the port.
Comptroller Onyeka attributed the improved performance to strengthened institutional support and renewed operational focus, adding that the command is set to prioritise trade facilitation and significantly reduce cargo delays in 2026.
He stated that the command intends to reposition itself as a trade enabler by simplifying procedures and improving service delivery to port users.
“What we intend to do going forward, differently from last year, is to be known as a trade enabler. Yes, we are going to facilitate trade, we are going to make it easier for the trading public,” Onyeka said.

The CAC commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for providing strong institutional backing, noting that the support has laid a solid foundation for improved operations at the command.
He stressed the importance of sustained engagement with stakeholders to eliminate prolonged cargo dwell time at the port, insisting that delays must be reduced to the barest minimum.
“Engagement with stakeholders is key, because we need to make it known that cargo delay will be brought to the barest minimum. Nobody should be proud of keeping cargo in the ports for two weeks. What we will do is to make sure that all hands are on deck so that cargo delay becomes a thing of the past,” he said.
While reaffirming the command’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade, Onyeka emphasised that national security would not be compromised. He explained that consignments flagged by scanning systems would still undergo physical examination in line with security protocols.
The CAC also commended members of the media for their professionalism and commitment to fact-based reporting, urging them to sustain efforts in verifying information before publication.
