Defence Communications Chief Assesses Operational Readiness at OPFY Headquarters
The Chief of Defence Communications, Major General EO Agbebaku, has undertaken an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma (HQ JTF OPFY), reaffirming the critical role of secure and efficient communication systems in sustaining military effectiveness.
Major General Agbebaku was received at the Headquarters by the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, alongside principal staff officers and other senior military officials.
The visit focused on evaluating the state of communication infrastructure and equipment supporting ongoing operations within the Joint Operations Area. Key areas of assessment included operational readiness, efficiency of deployed communication platforms, prevailing challenges, and measures required to enhance command and control capabilities in the theatre.

During the engagement, the Chief of Defence Communications was briefed on the communication architecture underpinning the operation, including ongoing upgrades and sustainment plans designed to ensure seamless connectivity across sectors. He also inspected critical communication installations and equipment, and held interactive sessions with communication personnel to gain firsthand insight into operational realities and areas requiring strategic intervention.
Commending the professionalism and dedication of troops, Major General Agbebaku emphasized that effective and secure communication remains a decisive enabler in contemporary military operations. He urged personnel to sustain their commitment and innovation in the discharge of their duties, assuring them of continued institutional support in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Defence Headquarters.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Idris, described the visit as timely and significant, noting that it would further strengthen communication efficiency and enhance overall operational effectiveness within Operation Fansan Yamma.
The visit featured inspection of communication facilities, operational briefings, interactive engagements with personnel, signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph.
