Customs Deepens Inter-Agency Collaboration to Boost Border Security in Kwara
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Area Command, has intensified efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration as part of measures to enhance border security and address evolving threats in the state.
This followed a series of strategic visits by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Najeem Ogundeyi, to key security agencies in Kwara State.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 13, 2026, and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Sani Suleiman, the visits were described as a core component of the Acting Controller’s management strategy after assuming office on December 16, 2025.
According to the statement, DC Ogundeyi said the outreach aligns with the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, which places a premium on collaboration and inter-agency cooperation in tackling national security challenges.
He stressed that strengthening synergy among security agencies remains critical to effectively confronting emerging security concerns in Kwara State.
“Upon assuming office, I considered it a priority to engage with my counterparts to familiarise myself and further consolidate the existing cooperation between our organisations,” Ogundeyi was quoted as saying.

The Acting Area Controller noted that no single agency can successfully address security threats in isolation, emphasising that a united and coordinated front would foster a conducive environment for the execution of statutory mandates and ensure peaceful coexistence in the state.
He also acknowledged the robust working relationship established by his predecessor, attributing the Command’s recent operational successes to sustained collaboration and intelligence sharing among security agencies.
Ogundeyi assured stakeholders that his leadership would be guided by professionalism, transparency, mutual respect and strict adherence to the rule of law.
“I am here to cement the established rapport between our services. I seek the same level of cooperation and support accorded to my predecessor. Together, we shall work diligently to secure our national borders and achieve our collective objectives,” he added.
The statement reiterated that although the Service is primarily tasked with revenue generation and trade facilitation, its mandate also encompasses national security and the protection of lives and property.
Agencies visited during the engagement included the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, among others.
In their separate remarks, the heads of the sister agencies welcomed the Acting Controller and pledged sustained intelligence sharing and operational support to bolster border protection and overall security in Kwara State.
