Tinubu Renews Appointment of Prof. Ayo Omotayo as NIPSS Director-General
ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the renewal grants Professor Omotayo a final term of four years at the helm of Nigeria’s foremost policy and strategic studies institution.
Professor Omotayo was initially appointed Director-General of NIPSS by former President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2021. His appointment was subsequently confirmed by the Senate in February 2022.
An accomplished academic and policy expert, Omotayo is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability with a long-standing career in academia and strategic research.
He studied at the University of Ibadan between 1980 and 1990, where he obtained a PhD in Geography.

Professor Omotayo began his teaching career at Lagos State University (LASU) in 1985 and rose rapidly through the academic ranks to become a Senior Lecturer in 1992 at the age of 30.
During his time at LASU, he held several leadership positions, including serving as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017. He also served as Director of the Centre for Planning at the university before his appointment as Director-General of NIPSS in 2021.
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, located in Kuru near Jos, is Nigeria’s premier institution for high-level policy research and leadership training, known for its flagship Senior Executive Course (SEC), which brings together senior public officials, military officers, and private sector leaders for strategic policy development.
With the renewed mandate, Professor Omotayo is expected to continue steering the institute’s research and leadership development programmes aimed at strengthening national policy formulation and strategic governance.
