JUST IN: Tinubu Approves Posting of Jimoh Ibrahim, Fani-Kayode, Dambazau, 62 Other Ambassadors to Foreign Missions, UN
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian foreign missions across the world and the United Nations, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s diplomatic representation abroad.
The list comprises 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors, whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the ambassadors have now been assigned to various countries and international missions following the President’s approval.
Among the prominent non-career appointees are former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, who will serve as ambassador to China, former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole assigned to Canada, and former Lagos Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro posted to Australia.
Others include Jimoh Ibrahim, who will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Femi Fani-Kayode assigned to Germany, and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ayodele Oke posted to France.
Also on the list are former Cross River lawmaker Grace Bent to Togo, former presidential aide Ita Enang to South Africa, and former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain.
The President equally approved several strategic postings for career diplomats across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including assignments to Egypt, India, Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Belgium, Switzerland, Malaysia, Iran, Thailand, and Kenya.
The statement noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) has already received agrément—formal diplomatic consent—from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has also granted agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
According to the Presidency, the ministry has forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries while requesting the necessary diplomatic approvals in line with international practice.
President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their formal deployment to their respective missions.
The new appointments are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, enhance bilateral relations, and advance the country’s strategic interests across the globe.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu. Similarly, France has sent the agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the other 62 designated envoys to all the countries concerned, including a request for their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice.
President Tinubu has directed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners.
